Since its inaugural Trek in 2005, Trekking for Kids volunteer Trekkers have been spreading hope to orphans across four continents, impacting the lives of hundreds of children. The hundreds of thousands of dollars raised have been contributed to one-time high-impact infastructure and sustainability projects at the orphanages, such as much needed repairs to the facilities, new buildings, furniture, livestock, education and even a grocery store. These projects are aimed at providing these orphanages a boost towards internal sustainability.

 

More than a trek...

 

Many people have described a Trekking for Kids' Expedition as a "life-changing" experience due to the emotional, physical and mental challenges often experienced on the trip. Our Trekkers join our expeditions for a variety of reasons, but they all have one motivation in common; they commit to the Trek not just for themselves, but also for a group of orphans with whom they will spend unforgettable days.

 

Upon arriving in-country, the Trekkers will spend the first four days at the orphanage finishing the work projects for which they have raised the funds in the months prior to the Expedition, enjoying a field trip with the children and participating in festivities for the orphans. Then the Trekkers depart for the Trek itself and will return to the orphanage at the conclusion of the Trek.

 

Trekking for Kids Expeditions are generally 10-14 days long. The Trekking portion can have varying degrees of difficulty and altitude, from the easier "Life Trek" to the more pyhsically demanding "Marquee Trek".  All of our Treks are led by a Western TFK Trek Leader and are supported by a local trekking company, helping us to access the world's most beautiful adventure destinations.

 

Our goal is that each Trekker finds his or her 'summit' at some point during the experience, which positively impacts their personal growth and development. Our hope is that each of us who participates in a Trekking for Kids Expedition returns home a better and more complete person.
